The Pedro's van left Bend, Oregon at 2:40 Monday afternoon. It is now parked in Lincoln, Nebraska about 24 hours later. It has not stopped...at all. OK, it stopped for about an hour in Meridian Idaho, just outside Boise, due to a slow leak in the rear tire. Some Fix-A-Flat was pumped into the nearly bottoming out tire and the van returned to the road. The GET IN THE VAN TEAM was a bit nervous, having nearly run out of gas on this very stretch of road on the way out to Bend, just days before. Despite a couple preemptive topping offs of the tank, history nearly repeated itself. The expanse between Twin Falls, Idaho and Ogden, Utah is just that desolate in the wee hours of the night. Of course the wee hours in those parts start at about 9PM.
The van really did run out of gas on its way to Cross Nationals in Bend, just outside Burns, Oregon, like 10 miles outside Burns, Oregon. It was 4AM, it was 11°, and there was no shoulder to pull off onto. The GITV Team went straight into Survivor Man mode: they busted out the Powerbook and watched Dod Sno while awaiting rescue:

A great film to watch while stranded on a deserted road, at night, in the snow.
Despite the 12 hours on, driving/6 hours off, sort of sleeping shifts, the now, two-man-team is employing, there has been some opportunity to catch up on some video editing. The video at the top of the post incorporates Pedro's Grassroots rider, Josh Lehmann's bar-cam footage with some HD footage taken with a Flip Mino while he was on course. Toward the end of the race Josh pitted his bike, so there's some great pit/bike wash footage thrown in as well.
Time to hit the road again, check back soon for further reports from the road. Unless, of course, the Nazi-Zombies get us before we can get to another internet cafe.
